Membership is open to those independent and private schools who meet the following qualifications:
1. Are fully accredited by a recognized accrediting agency by the State of Georgia, preferably SACS, SAIS, or GAC;
2. Have as their primary mission or within their mission a special program that focuses on students with learning disabilities, issues, and differences.
3. Employ at least a coordinator/director of the special needs program who has an experienced background or degree in special education;
4. Adhere to the GAPSEC Code of Ethics;
5. Attend at least one annual meeting and provide relevant statistics established and requested by GAPSEC;
6. Do not discriminate in their programs in regard to race, creed, religion, sex, and national or ethnic origin;
7. Are recommended for membership after a visit to the respective school by a GAPSEC membership visitation committee.
